Yanting Zhou is a Chinese multidisciplinary artist and a graduate of the Fine Art (BA) program at ArtEZ University of the Arts. Zhou’s practice centers on immersive, multisensory installations that interweave light, space, and bodily perception. By employing light as both material and metaphor, she employs light as both material and metaphor to explore the complex and subtle relationships between perception, language, and embodied interaction.
Her work challenges the primacy of verbal language, constructing environments where meaning emerges through direct sensory experience rather than symbolic representation. Influenced by phenomenology and post-structuralism, Zhou investigates how bodies navigate spaces imbued with ambiguity and affect. Driven by a desire to transcend established linguistic codes, Zhou believes that the body is not merely situated in space but actively generates alternative systems of understanding through sensory engagement.
